Welcome to Blackpool Animal Aid. Results of our first meeting.

January 8, 2010

Yesterday we had our first successful Blackpool Animla Aid meeting. 5 of us turned up and discussed what we want to do with animal rights both locally, and attending out of town national events.

We decided at our Animal Aid meeting last night to start leafletting outside the local branches of McDonalds and KFC (Burger King’s one outlet has thankfully recently closed), because those 2 corporations, and especially McDonalds, which kills more chickens than even KFC, are responsible for more animal cruelty globally than any other local companies.

So, a box of PETA’s “KFC Cruelty” leaflets has been ordered, which KFC recently unsuccessfully complained to the Advertising Standards Authority about, and have ordered a box of Viva!’s general anti-burger restaurant leaflets, which I already have a lot of.
If you live in Poulton, Carleton, Thornton, or on the way into Blackpool from any of those places, contact us for a lift, which will be at a different McDonalds or KFC each Saturday, and to future monthly Animal Aid meetings at Richard’s. Please let me know if you need a lift.
As I don’t want to email people each week, let me know if you want to come along to a future leafletting session, and I will let you know where we will be. Tomorrow, we will be visiting the McDonalds at 80-84, Bank Hey St., Blackpool. Meet at about 12 at the stall we will be setting up round the corner on Victoria St. (next to the entrance of the Hounds Hill centre, and near the back of Marks and Spencers), and will be giving out Viva!’s general anti-burger restaurant leaflets.

Yet another meeting which some of you might be interested in…

Sunday 17th January. 12ish till 2.30ish. First Preston Animal Rights Group Meeting.
No set routine or formalities. Just turn up and bring some ideas. Email PARG (
prestonanimalrights@googlemail.com) if you want to discuss anything, or, if you can’t make it, we can still raise your points.
The Angel Bar,
Lune St,
Preston. PR1 2NL
And some demos in the North which I have been asked to mention. Personally, I would prefer to stay in the Fylde having fun with George and Tony, and in Preston if PARG want to do anti-McDonalds and KFC leafletting, but some people at last night’s meeting want to go to these, so get in touch if you also want to go to them…

Saturday 30th January. B&K Universal – Blood On Their Hands Rally
Bantin and Kingman Universal are one of the few remaining firms in the UK who are commercial breeders of animals for experimentation. Based in the coastal village of Grimston, East Yorkshire, B&K breed beagle dogs and rodents, but can obtain primates for customers. Activists from the north will descend upon B&K Universal in Grimston and rally against the killing they are responsible for as suppliers of HLS & Sequani labs and the M.O.D. plus many other vile groups.

Meet at 12.30pm at The Field Station, Grimston, Aldbrough, Hull, HU11 4QE (along the B1242, Hornsea to Withernsea Road, near Hull).
Please ask us if you would like a lift. Times to be arranged closer to the date.

Saturday 13th February. National March & Rally Against Bradford University Animal Lab.
Meeting 12noon at Centenary Square, Queensbury, Bradford, BD1 9ST
A rally, stalls and speeches are being held in Centenary Square (next to the Town Hall) before marching through Bradford town centre and up to the university laboratories.
Please join us on this important day and speak up for the closure of Bradford’s animal torture laboratory.

Veggies Catering will be providing vegan food, drinks and refreshments on the day.
SPEAKERS: Luke Steele (Stop Animal Experiements At Bradford), Debbie Vincent (Stop Huntingtom Animal Cruelty), Amanda Richards(SPEAK), Sean Kirtley (wrongfully imprisoned for 2 years for legally campaigning against Sequani laborities) + more TBC

If anyone would like a lift please get in touch. Leaving Blackpool times to be confirmed closer to the date.
Friday 12th – Sunday 14th March. Spring Animal Rights Gathering, Sumac Centre, Nottingham

For more info on workshop, etc visit the facebook event

Accodmodation at Sumac centre or other activists houses. Mini-bus to leave from Blackpool on the friday, picking people up at Preston and Manchester along the way. Please let us know if you would like a space on the mini-bus. You will need sleeping bags, clothing, washing stuffs, campaigning materials and enthusiasm!
The next meeting will be either the first or second thursday of the month from February and depending on numbers will affect how many meetings we have in future. If it is a low turnout we will only have meetings if there is an important agenda needing to be discussed, however if it’s a high turnout we’ll have regular monthly meetings.
